Comprehensive 1‑Hour Eye Test & Health Examination

1. Discussion of Your Vision Concerns

We’ll begin by asking about your current visual problems, how you use your eyes daily, any existing health conditions or medications that may affect your vision.

2. Measuring Your Current Glasses Prescription

We assess the prescription of your current glasses. This information helps us analyze your vision issues and is valuable when fine‑tuning the prescription for your new lenses.

3. Visual Acuity Testing

We measure your visual acuity both without any correction and while wearing your current glasses.

4. Measuring approximate refractive error with the Autorefractor

We use an automatic device to obtain an initial, approximate measurement of your refractive error. While this provides a helpful starting point, it’s not your final prescription.

5. Measuring Refractive error with the Digital Phoropter

We use a digital phoropter to refine your prescription accurately:

Full Refraction:
Determines your complete optical prescription—sphere (nearsightedness or farsightedness), cylinder (astigmatism), axis, and near/far vision. With this prescription, your vision becomes crisp and clear at all distances.
Binocular Function Testing:
Evaluates how well both eyes work together, assessing focusing ability and detecting issues like hidden strabismus or convergence insufficiency.

This test relies on your feedback ("which is clearer, 1 or 2?"), so cooperation is essential. For young children or those unable to respond, we use alternative methods.

6. Measuring Vision Using Retinoscopy (Retinoscopy)

We perform retinoscopy to measure your refractive error by observing the light reflection from your eye—no responses are needed from the patient. This method is ideal for children, individuals with eye conditions, or those unable to undergo digital phoropter testing.

How it works
A handheld tool called a retinoscope shines light into your eye and the examiner observes the reflection (red reflex). By sweeping the light and introducing various lenses, the examiner neutralizes the reflex to determine your prescription—finding out if you’re nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism

Why we use it

It’s an objective test requiring no verbal feedback—perfect for infants, young children, non-verbal patients, or those with certain eye diseases
It's unaffected by patient cooperation and gives a reliable baseline for further refinement.

7. Trial Lens Fitting

We place trial lenses based on the prescriptions determined in Steps 5 and 6. You’ll try on real lenses within a trial frame and we’ll adjust the prescription to ensure maximum comfort and clarity.

For those needing progressive lenses (for age-related long sight), you’ll also try a trial progressive lens to make sure you’re confident before we finalize your order

This ensures you experience your actual vision before committing—giving you full confidence in your new lenses.

8. Eye Health Screening

We perform a full eye‑health assessment using a slit‑lamp microscope and Spectral Domain OCT (SD‑OCT).

Slit‑Lamp Examination

This high‑magnification microscope with a focused light beam allows us to examine both the front and back of your eye in great detail—including eyelids, cornea, lens, retina, and optic nerve. It’s essential for identifying conditions like blepharitis, blocked glands, pterygium, pinguecula, dry eye, corneal diseases, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and more

Spectral‑Domain OCT

A non‑invasive imaging technique that captures high‑resolution, cross‑sectional scans of the eye. With axial resolution as fine as 3–7 μm, SD‑OCT enables early detection of retinal, macular, and glaucoma‑related pathologies—providing clarity often not visible through slit‑lamp alone

12. Aligning the Pupillary Center with the Optical Center of the Lens
